Things first got weird when they were BLACKOUT drunk and started flirting w my best friend. As soon as they were reminded of this they left where they were and called me to come over & talk. Thought we worked it out but things have been weird since.
They have also never had sex w anyone or hooked up in p much any capacity; the first time things escalated they asked when I had been last tested, told them I'm clean and I could get a condom anyway (this happened ONE other time where I suggested this half-seriously, then dropped it immediately), they insisted I get tested and I had no problem w that. Over several weeks this has still not happened for a variety of reasons, and that's apparently part of why they got "bitter" and flirted w my friend. Tonight, before I had broken up w them, they said my suggestion that I grab a condom was "manipulative", but did not seem intentional; I was extremely bothered that I had made someone feel this way and apologized profusely, they said it's okay i dont think youre a bad person etc etc.
Then we talked in circles for a long time, with me explaining how deeply it hurt me several weeks ago and how im not in a place right now to be a healthy partner & how i dont want to risk "trying to fix it" because that almost always fails, esp this early on. This whole time their attitude was "if it doesn't work it doesn't work, you need to do what's best for you, etc". As soon as I made it clear that I wanted to call it off, this shifted to "disappointed" and "wasted time".
If this was said in a real-life conversation amongst normal friends, the listeners would definitely think 'wow that's phrased a little oddly'. There's no denying that.
